Earth Day

The theme for Earth Day 2024 is "Planet vs. Plastic." This year, www.earthday.org is dedicated to a bold commitment to end plastics for the sake of human and planetary health, demanding a 60% reduction in the production of ALL plastics by 2040. At SMA, we are proud to align with this commitment, which supports the Sisters of the Holy Names of Jesus and Mary's Corporate Stand on Water as a Human Right and Public Good. Consistent with this stand, we oppose any measures that "favour the privatization of water as a commodity to be bought and sold for profit when in reality it is a heritage we all hold in common." In support of these principles, SMA has long been a bottled-water free zone. Our school is equipped with water stations that ensure access to fresh water and further reduce plastic consumption. To celebrate Earth Day, our Green Team in collaboration with our Mission and Charism Team, are hosting a prayer service at 1 PM in the Sheila Chipman Atrium.
